Pep Band Details

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

I thought I'd post some more details on pep band based on the feedback I have been receiving from parents and students. Please look over the following post and reply here with questions, comments, or observations pertaining to pep band and football season.

First Rehearsal, Tuesday, September 8, 2020

What to expect a little chaos - not too much, but things will be hectic as we get music copied and passed out. We will learn as much music as we can during our time together. Wind rehearsals will happen in a seated set up with plenty of space. Percussion will be standing most of the time. Masks will be worn when not playing.

Where - students will need to enter through the main entrance between 3:30 and 4:00. Please don't request entrance before 3:30. No one will be at the front doors after 4:00, so please don't be late. Winds will rehearse in the cafeteria, and percussion will rehearse in the band room. Go straight to those locations when you arrive.

What to bring - Masks! You won't be able to enter the building without a mask. Percussionists must have earplugs. Dress comfortably - we will be inside, but it gets warm in the building. Bring plenty of water, and you may want to bring a snack. Obviously you'll need your instrument and bring music and flipfolders from last year. New members will get music, and we will talk about flipfolders and lyres.

Dismissal - rehearsal will end at 6:00. Students will need to leave the building immediately. Students should be picked up by 6:15. Please let me know if that's a problem. I almost always end rehearsal a few minutes early so that students are walking out the door at 6:00.

First Game, Friday, September 25, 2020

What to expect stadium attendance will be limited. I'm still waiting on details. The band will be performing in the stands, and we will most likely set up on the visitor's side of the stadium.

Where - students will report to the band room by 6:30. I'm not sure yet which entrance we will use. We will walk down to the stadium at 6:45, play the Star Spangled Banner at around 7:10, and kickoff will be at 7:30.

What to bring - Masks! You won't be able to enter the building without a mask. Obviously you'll need your instrument and your music. Everyone must have water. I will not allow you to perform without a water bottle. It's too hot to take that chance.

Dismissal - the game will be over when the game ends (lol). I don't know what time that will be. It could be 10:00, it could be 10:30, it could even be 9:30. It depends on the score, the clock, etc. Students will need to text when we are nearing the end of the game. Students will be released directly from the stadium. Percussion and tubas will need to return to the band room to pack up before leaving.
